Welcome to the Parents’ section of Sneezesafe*!

Sneezesafe*is a tissue training programme for schools, designed for pupils aged 4–6. Devised by Kleenex and reviewed by SAPHNA (School and Public Health Nurses Association) and teachers, this resource enables schools to encourage children to practise correct respiratory hygiene and tissue use to help reduce the spread of colds, flu and other viruses.

You can help your child stay healthy and prevent the spread of viruses by reminding them of our simple 1-2-3 message which is in line with NHS recommendations for respiratory and hand hygiene:

  • Use a tissue to blow your nose and to cover coughs and sneezes
  • Throw used tissues in the bin as soon as possible
  • Wash your hands as soon as you can.

The materials are free and include a number of fun and exciting educational stories and games to teach your child/children about colds, cold germs and how tissues can help keep them at bay.

Schools are taking this issue seriously because many absences are caused by viruses, many of which are spread in classrooms where pupils are in close contact with one another. Good hygiene and tissue use can help protect your children from germs so that they avoid missing valuable school time. It can also help stop the spread of colds and flu to other members of the family.
