Kleenex & The Environment

There's a few things you might like to know about Kleenex when it comes to the environment, so here are some facts about our products:

OUR TISSUES: These are made from natural fibres which are biodegradable. And more importantly, our tissues are FSC certified*. Read the piece under FSC to understand exactly what this means.

OUR PACKAGING:

•	All of our packaging is recyclable.
•	Our boxes are made from at least 95% recycled fibre with most of them actually being 100% recycled.
•	The distribution packaging for all Kleenex made in the UK is FSC certified.

FSC: By buying FSC certified Kleenex® tissues you are helping to protect the world's forests. How? FSC stands for the Forest Stewardship Council, it ensures that forests all over the world are managed responsibly, considering the environment, the wildlife and the local people who live and work in the area.

WWF: We're also members of the WWF-UK Forest & Trade network. This body commits to implementing a responsible purchasing policy for forest products.

The unique technology developed by Kleenex® has allowed us to create a range of products made with Ecoform. This means our Facial cloths, Cleansing Wipes and Eye Make Up Removal Wipes are not only gentle and effective, but also have a lower environmental impact than standard wipe material.

Ecoform contains natural fibres from certified sources, has a lower carbon footprint, requires less energy and water to make, and the whole process to produce them creates less waste. We measured these environmental impacts over the full 'life-cycle' of the wipes – from producing the raw materials that go into them, through manufacturing and finally disposal. This life-cycle analysis was then reviewed by an independent expert to ensure it complied with international standards and that we could be confident in our findings.

We assessed four key environmental impacts - greenhouse gas emissions (i.e. its carbon footprint), energy use, water use and solid waste. Ecoform was shown to have a significantly lower impact in all four categories when compared to standard wipe material.

Comparative Life-cycle Impact Results

This means that relative to comparable standard wipes, using 1000 ecoform wipes would save:

5.9kg CO2-e – equivalent to 24km of driving!

91 MJ of fossil fuels – equivalent to 2.6L of petrol!

310 litres of water – equivalent to a very full bath tub!
