Kleenex® Brand — Hayfever Top Tips
  1. Take measures to reduce your stress levels: Regular exercise will encourage the release of endorphins as well as give your mind a break from thinking about whatever is causing the stress. Spending time with family and friends who don’t cause you stress and looking after yourself physically will also help lower stress levels
  2. Fresh air is good for you: Don’t stop going outside completely, just avoid times when the pollen count is at its highest – for grass pollen, usually first thing in the morning and early evening. When out and about make sure you are prepared by carrying tissues, a bottle of water and your medication or treatment with you
  3. Don't hang clothes outside on high pollen count days because this allows pollen to cling to the fabric. Instead, hang clothing on an indoor clothes dryer
  4. Eat a balanced and varied diet to support your immune system
  5. Avoid cigarettes and smoky environments as the smoke irritates your respiratory passages and nose
  6. Try and reduce your alcohol intake during the hay fever season. As well as making you more sensitive to pollen, alcohol also dehydrates you, making symptoms seem worse
  1. Always carry tissues, a bottle of water and your medication or treatment with you
  2. Blow your nose, gently, to help to remove the pollen grains from your respiratory system
  3. Know your enemy: 86% of sufferers don’t know which type of pollen they’re allergic. Keeping a diary of symptoms and matching it against a pollen calendar may help
  4. Remember to check the pollen forecast (TV, radio or websites) before you leave to help you plan your day and avoid high pollen counts
  5. Keep windows closed at home and in the office
  6. Change your clothes, wash your hair and rinse your eyes after being outside to get rid of any pollen. If your children suffer, encourage them to wash their hands and face after they have been outside
  7. Wearing sunglasses and a broad-rimmed hat can help keep pollen away from your face
  8. Consult your GP or pharmacist about the best medication or treatments to help to control your symptoms
